RWANDANS IN POLAND ORGANIZED UMUGOROBA WO KWIBUKA IN WARSAW
On 11th May 2025, RCA Poland, in collaboration with the Embassy of Rwanda in Poland, organized "Umugoroba wo Kwibuka" event at Dom Kultury Kadr in Warsaw. The gathering was part of the 100 days of the 31st Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi. It brought together over 200 participants, mainly youth from RCA Poland, as well as representatives from RCA France, Denmark, Belgium, and Polish friends of Rwanda.
The event served as a platform to deepen understanding particularly among the youth about Rwanda’s historical context, particularly the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. It aimed to educate participants about the dangers of genocide ideology, denial, and revisionism, while also empowering them to take an active role in preserving truth, unity, and resilience.
The program featured the screening of the documentary "Secrets of the Thousand Hills", a poetic play titled "Rhymes of Remembrance" performed by a team led by Uwamahoro Malayika, and a panel discussion with Me. Gisagara Richard (RCA France), Dr. Ngoga Jim Innocent (Chairperson, RCA Denmark), Habimana Abby (Chairperson, RCA Belgium), and Ntwali Christian (Founder, Our Past Initiative).
These activities reflected on Rwanda’s journey from a unified precolonial nation, through the colonial-imposed divisions, to the tragedy of the 1994 genocide. They also honored the courage and sacrifice of the RPF Inkotanyi, who not only stopped the genocide but also restored the country’s dignity and laid the foundation for a hopeful and unified future.
The event concluded with closing remarks by the Ambassador of Rwanda, who was the Guest of Honor. In his speech, he reflected on the history of the Genocide Against the Tutsi and emphasized the critical role of youth in building the Rwanda we aspire to. He encouraged them to draw inspiration from the bravery and resilience of the RPF Inkotanyi and urged them to build on Rwanda’s achievements by continuing to play an active role in the country’s development and transformation.
