Coffee , tea, and artcrafts from Rwanda, attractions at diplomatic Charity Bazaar in Warsaw
The 17th edition of the SHOM International Charity Bazaar took place on December 8, 2024, in Warsaw, organized by the Spouses of Heads of Missions Association (SHOM). Held at the Business Club at PGE Narodowy, the event gathered representatives from more than 40 embassies, showcasing their cultural and culinary heritage. The funds raised during the bazaar will be donated to support 16 selected Polish charitable organizations.
The Embassy of Rwanda participated for the third consecutive year. This year, it nominated the Mother Czacka Foundation as one of the beneficiaries of the event. The Foundation supports blind and visually impaired children, continuing the mission started by Mother Elżbieta Czacka.
Ambassador of Rwanda, Professor Anastase Shyaka's involvement in selecting this organization is no coincidence. The Government of Rwanda has long supported the Educational Institute for Blind Children in Kibeho, established by the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters Servants of the Cross in 2009. This longstanding collaboration has played a significant role in the development of education and care for visually impaired children in Rwanda.
The Rwandan booth showcased beautiful handicrafts, as well as coffee and tea from plantations in various regions of the country. All products were met with great interest – by the end of the day, the entire stock was sold out. Visitors to the booth also had the chance to try Rwandan tea prepared in two ways – spice tea and African tea. Both were a very popular and enjoyed by all.
The SHOM International Charity Bazaar is not only an opportunity to support those in need but also a platform for building intercultural bonds. The organizers aim to raise funds to support Polish charitable foundations and promote mutual understanding through the exploration of cultural and culinary diversity, as well as a better understanding of Poland as the host country.
Each year, the event is held under the patronage of the Spouse of the President of the Republic of Poland, giving it particular importance on the diplomatic stage. Through its involvement in this year's edition, Rwanda not only showcased its cultural heritage but also contributed to supporting those in need, uniting efforts for international solidarity.
