e-PASSPORT

ORDINARY PASSPORT

An Ordinary e-passport is issued to any Rwandan who fulfills the necessary requirements to facilitate his/her travels outside the country. 

Note:

* Children below 16 years old are not required to give biometrics.  

* Both parents must be present for portrait (photo) capture of children.

 * For collection of child passport, birth certificate must be presented.

PROCESSING TIME

Four (4) working days for first application and two (2) working days for renewal

VALIDITY

* A child passport is valid for 2 or 5 years

* An adult passport valid for 5 or 10 years

APPLICATION FEES

A child passport costs twenty-five thousand (25,000) FRW 

* An adult passport valid for 5 years’ costs seventy-five thousand (75,000) FRW

* An adult passport valid for 10 years’ costs one hundred thousand (100,000) FRW

REQUIREMENTS

APPLICANTS OF 16 YEARS AND ABOVE

* Rwandan identity card 

* Payment of required application fees

CHILD UNDER 16 YEARS OLD

CHILD WITH LEGALLY MARRIED PARENTS 

* Application letter addressed to the Rwanda Embassy in Zimbabwe signed by both parents

* One recently taken colored passport size photo with white background 

* Copy of both parents’ identity cards 

* Child’s birth certificate 

* Parents’ marriage certificate 

* Payment of 25,000 FRW 

CHILD WHO LOST BOTH PARENTS

* Application letter addressed to the Rwanda embassy in Zimbabwe signed by the guardian(s) 

* One recently taken colored passport size photo with white background 

* Copy of the guardian’s identity card(s) 

* Child’s birth certificate 

* Death certificate for both parents 

* Copy of a legal guardianship 

* Payment of 25,000 FRW

CHILD WHO LOST ONE PARENT

* Application letter addressed to the Rwanda Embassy in Zimbabwe signed by the living parent 

* One recently taken colored passport size photo with white background 

* Copy of the living parent’s Identity Card

* Child’s birth certificate 

* Death certificate of the deceased parent 

* Payment of 25,000 FRW

CHILD WITH DIVORCED PARENTS 

* Application letter addressed to the Rwanda embassy in Zimbabwe signed by both parents 

* One recently taken colored passport size photo with white background 

* Child’s birth certificate 

* Copy of the identity cards of both parents

* Copy of divorce judgment

* Payment of 25,000 FRW

CHILD WHOSE PARENTS ARE NOT LEGALLY MARRIED 

* Application letter addressed to the Rwanda Embassy in Zimbabwe signed by both parents 

* One recently taken colored passport size photo with white background 

* Copy of the identity card of both parents 

* Child’s birth certificate 

* Celibacy certificate of the mother 

* In case the child stays with the father, he presents the certificate of recognition issued by the sector authorities

* Payment of 25,000 FRW 

NB:

* The passports issued up to 27th June 2019 shall be valid until 28th June 2022. for the communique.

* In case of loss or theft of passport, the applicant shall present the certificate issued by the competent authority 

* If it is established that there was a negligence on the person whose passport was lost, stolen or damaged, the application fees is increased by 50%.

* In case of loss, theft or damage of passport, the applicant is subjected to interview for explanations on circumstances under which it happened.
